How to Use Netflix: 11 Tips and Tricks You Need To Know
Netflix is a great way to watch TV shows and movies, but there are some tips and tricks that you need to know in order to get the most out of the service.
In this blog post, I will outline 11 of the best ways to use Netflix.
So, whether you are a new user or an experienced one, these tips will help you get the most out of your Netflix account.
1. Search for Titles
One of the biggest benefits of Netflix is that it has a fairly large selection of TV shows and movies to choose from.
But, in order to benefit from this wide array of titles, you have to know how to find them.
This can be done by using the search function, which allows you to search for any title that you want.
To do this, simply open up your web browser on your computer or mobile device and type in what you are looking for in the search bar at the top of the screen.
Then press enter or click over the magnifying glass icon next to it.
You can also go back into an individual title's page by clicking on their corresponding "More" button, which will bring up information about the title like its Rotten Tomatoes score, runtime, etc.
2. Rating Titles
Another way to help Netflix know which titles are your favorites is by rating them.
You can do this by hovering over a title's thumbnail image on the website or within the mobile app and then clicking on "Rate this title."
This will bring up a new screen where you have the option of giving the title anywhere from 1-5 stars depending on how much you liked it.
This will help Netflix learn what types of shows and movies you enjoy so that they can suggest more titles for you to watch in the future.
3. Skip Intro/Opening Credits
If you are watching a TV series or movie that has opening credits or a title sequence, you don't have to sit through them every single time that you watch a new episode or movie.
To fast forward through the intro, simply press down on your laptop's space bar or mobile device's home button.
If done correctly, this will cause the progress bar to move faster than normal and skip over the intro/opening credits.
4. Play Titles On Your TV Without A Chromecast
Netflix has made it easier for users to stream titles directly to their TV by adding an "AirPlay" button onto many of its titles' pages.
This option allows users to mirror what is being displayed on their computer onto an AppleTV without needing special software installed on their computer or any additional hardware plugged into their TV.
5. Add Titles Your Friends Like
If you and your friends have Netflix split accounts, then all of you can add titles that your friends like to your individual "My List" pages.
This will give everyone involved a better idea about what to watch next by showing them the titles that their friends enjoy the most.
To do this, go into someone's profile page who has an account with Netflix, click on "More" in the top right corner of the screen, and then select "Add to My List."
From there, select how much you want to share it with them (e.g., Just Me or Everyone) and whether or not they should be able to see which other titles are currently in your list as well.
Then press "Add" and it will be added to their list.
6. Rate Titles On Multiple Devices
Even though you can't actually use Netflix on multiple devices at the same time, you can rate titles from different devices without affecting your overall rating of that title.
For example, you could start watching a TV show on your computer and rate it as 5 stars so that Netflix knows to recommend more shows like it for future viewing.
Then, once you've finished watching the title, go ahead and watch it again using your phone's Netflix app and give the same exact title another rating.
This will not affect the original rating given from your computer but instead be added onto that initial number (e.g., If you gave the 5 star rating on your computer, any other device will see it as a 5 star rating).
7. Watch Netflix Instantly On Your Computer
Netflix has made it possible to watch TV shows and movies without having to wait for them to be available on DVD or via streaming by adding "Watch Instantly" titles onto its website.
Instead of scrolling through an entire list of options, this option lets you automatically filter your results based on what they have listed under the "Instant" tab in the menu bar at the top of each page within their website.
8. Download A Show For Offline Viewing
To download a show that you would like to watch later while you don't have internet access, go into that particular title's information page and look for the "Available to Download" button.
Once pressed, it will give you the option to download that particular title onto your computer or mobile device.
9. Browse Titles By Genre
Netflix has made it easier to find titles that fit into a certain genre by organizing them based on their respective genres within the Netflix menu bar at the top of each page.
This makes it easy for users to quickly find different types of shows and movies without having to return back to the homepage after viewing all of its recommendations for them.
10. Use The Recent Tab To Watch What You've Just Watched
If you are watching something on Netflix but have not yet finished it, then there is an easy way for you to pick up where you left off without having to search for it.
Simply go into your Netflix menu bar and click on "Recents" to see a list of the TV shows and movies that you have recently watched.
From there, you can choose which title you would like to watch next without having to remember where exactly you left off within that show or movie.
11. Create Multiple Profiles
If more than one person shares a single Netflix account, then it is good to know that each member has their own individual profile with its own list of personalized titles tailored specifically for them based on what they've watched before.
To create another profile, go into your personal information page by clicking on "Your Account" in the top right corner of their homepage, select "Add Profile," then enter the name of the person who will be sharing the account with you.
Once you've created a profile, log out of your original one and start using this new one instead if you don't want to use the same account as someone else.
